Running horror games with confidence

By Tessa Voidsworn

Horror games live and die on consent. The X-card, lines and veils, and the open-door rule aren't training wheels — they're load-bearing supports that let your table go further, together.

Tell players exactly what kind of horror you're running. Folk horror? Cosmic horror? Body horror? Each pulls different levers and asks for different sensitivities.

Pace the dread. Most horror sessions are 70% mood, 25% investigation, and 5% terror. Spend the time setting the table.
